Metallic Sandy Shore epoxy pigment paste gives clear epoxy resin a pale metallic sand shimmer. This highly concentrated, lightfast metallic paste comes in a 30mL jar and disperses easily in epoxy resin and Solid Cast 660 Polyurethane Casting Resin. Use it for the sand in beach scenes, soft neutral accents and shimmering castings. Dose at 2–5% of your mixed resin. A little goes a long way.

What Metallic Sandy Shore does in resin

Metallic sand shimmer
Metallic Sandy Shore adds a pale metallic sand shimmer that catches the light as you move around the piece.
Beach sand and shorelines
Pour it as the sand section of a beach scene, or use it as a soft neutral beside blues and teals.
River tables and castings
Pour a metallic sand river in River Resin Deep Cast Epoxy, or dose close to 5% for strong metallic colour in moulds, coasters and trays. Test on an offcut first, because the timber colour changes how the sand reads.

Best for

Beach sand sections
Soft neutral accents
Metallic river tables
Geode art
Coasters and trays

How to colour epoxy resin metallic sand

1
Stir well before use
Metallic pigment can settle in the jar, so stir the paste through before you measure it.
2
Mix the resin first
Combine your resin and hardener at the correct ratio and mix thoroughly before adding the metallic paste.
3
Dose a little at a time
Start near 2% and increase towards 5% for a stronger metallic colour. You can add more, but you can't take it out.
4
Mix until even
Scrape the sides and base of the cup and keep mixing until the shimmer is even throughout.
5
Pour
Pour as normal. Viscosity varies from colour to colour across the range because each pigment is different.
Stay within 5%. Too much pigment can leave the resin soft or tacky.

FAQs

How do I make metallic sand epoxy resin?+
Mix your resin and hardener first, then stir in Metallic Sandy Shore epoxy pigment paste at 2–5% of the combined volume. Dose closer to 5% for a stronger metallic colour.
How much metallic pigment paste do I add to resin?+
Dose at 2–5% of your combined resin and hardener. That is roughly 2 grams of paste for every 100mL of mixed resin. Add it in small amounts until the metallic colour is as strong as you want, and do not exceed 5%.
Is Metallic Sandy Shore lightfast?+
Yes. Metallic Sandy Shore is manufactured with lightfast pigment.
Does metallic pigment paste affect curing?+
Not when you stay within 2–5%. Too much pigment is what leaves resin soft or tacky. Always mix your resin and hardener at the correct ratio before the paste goes in.
Is it suitable for polyurethane resin?+
Yes. It suits Solid Cast 660 Polyurethane Casting Resin. Keep to the same 2–5% dose.
Can I use Metallic Sandy Shore pigment paste in UV resin?+
No. Epoxy pigment paste is not designed for UV resin. This paste is made for two-part epoxy resin and Solid Cast 660 Polyurethane Casting Resin.
Not suitable for UV resin. Epoxy pigment paste is not designed for UV resin.

Metallic paste vs other colourants

vs mica powder
Both give a metallic shimmer. The paste is already dispersed, so there is no dust and no clumps to break up, and it stirs in evenly.
vs alcohol ink
Alcohol inks give transparent colour without shimmer. Metallic Sandy Shore adds colour and shimmer together, and it is made with lightfast pigment.
vs acrylic paint
The water in acrylic paint can upset the cure and leave streaks. Metallic paste is made for resin.

Safety & storage

Protection
A mask and protective wear must be worn at all times.
Ventilation
Use in a well-ventilated area only.
Storage
Store the jar sealed, in a cool place away from direct sunlight.
Before each use
Stir the paste well, because metallic pigment can settle in the jar.
