Silicone Rubber 1:1 Mould Maker | Translucent | 1L Kit

A translucent, platinum cure (addition-cure) silicone rubber that mixes 1:1 by volume and reproduces the finest surface detail with very low shrinkage. Its softer 20A Shore hardness makes it extra flexible for demoulding delicate, intricate designs, and being platinum cured, it's food grade and skin-safe — ideal for impression moulds, masks, soap and candle moulds, and jewellery or prototype parts cast in conjunction with Solid Cast 660 Polyurethane.

How to Use

1
Measure equal parts of Part A and Part B by volume — for example, 250ml Part A to 250ml Part B.
2
Mix thoroughly in a straight-sided, flat-bottomed container with a flat ruler-shaped mixing stick, scraping the sides and base of the container.
3
Pour over your master model within the pot life window (20 – 30 minutes @ 25°C).
4
Demould in around 2 to 4 hours @ 25°C. For large casting moulds, leave to set for at least 12 hours before demoulding.

Why Platinum Cure?

Platinum cure silicones use an addition-cure chemistry (catalysed by platinum) rather than the tin-based condensation cure found in cheaper rubbers. That means very low ongoing shrinkage, so fine detail stays accurate over the life of the mould, and a much longer library life — platinum cure moulds can be reused for years, compared to roughly 12 months for a typical tin-cure rubber. It's also FDA-compliant for food and skin contact, which is why it's suited to soap and candle moulds as well as life-casting work. One thing to note: platinum cure silicone won't cure properly against sulfur-based clays (such as sulfur-cure plasticine) — seal a sulfur-based model with an acrylic spray first, or use a sulfur-free modelling clay.

Storage & Safety

Wear protective gloves and glasses when mixing and using. Uncured material can be removed with a solvent or methylated spirit followed by washing with warm soapy water. Always wear a mask when using any solvent cleaner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is platinum cure silicone, and why does it matter?+
Platinum cure silicone uses an addition-cure reaction catalysed by platinum, giving very low shrinkage, a much longer mould life than tin-cure rubbers, and FDA-compliant food and skin safety.
What's in this kit and what's the mixing ratio?+
This 1L kit contains 500mL Part A and 500mL Part B, mixed 1:1 by volume.
How is the Translucent version different from the standard silicone?+
This Translucent kit has a softer 20A Shore hardness, giving extra flexibility for demoulding delicate, intricate designs. The standard pink Silicone Rubber 1:1 kits use a firmer 30A hardness, better suited to larger, more solid casting work.
How long does it take to cure and demould?+
Pot life is 20 – 30 minutes at 25°C, it cures in around 2 to 3 hours, and pieces can typically be demoulded within 2 to 4 hours at 25°C.
Is it safe for food or skin-contact moulds?+
Yes. Being platinum cured, it's food grade and non-toxic once fully cured, making it suitable for soap and candle moulds and life-casting work. Avoid sulfur-based modelling clays for the master, as sulfur can prevent platinum silicone from curing.

Silicone rubber 1:1

This worked wonderfully , I used it to mold a stack of books which I am going to resin and turn into a light, if I can, but the books didn't stick to the silicone, so far so good

Excellent

I have found that if I want fine detail without bubbles spoiling the mold, I only have to mix a quantity and pour very slowly in a thin line and let the liquid silicone creep slowly over the mold. It will fill crevices if you go slowly. Mix a bit more a bit later and repeat. The rubber bonds to itself and forms a single mold and you get the fine details produced in the mold. It works. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. Beyond that there is nothing else to say except that the price is reasonable and Solid Solutions take care when packaging it for shipment.
