How to use Solid Cast 606

1
Weigh 3:1
Measure 3 parts A to 1 part B by weight on a scale. Do not mix by volume.
2
Mix
Mix in a straight sided, flat bottomed container with a flat, ruler shaped stick. Scrape the sides and base until the mix is crystal clear and free of streaks.
3
Pour
Pour over the timber at 1–2 mm and let it self level. Prefill knot holes and larger defects first.
4
Remove bubbles
Safely pass a propane torch flame over the surface. Repeat after 15 minutes for bubbles rising from the wood.
5
Cure
Keep between 20 °C and 30 °C. A thin layer cures in about 24 hours, with maximum impact strength after 5 days.
Mix by weight, not volume. About 40 minutes working time at 25 °C. Do not let the temperature drop below 20 °C while curing.

FAQs

What is the mix ratio for Solid Cast 606?+
3 parts A to 1 part B by weight, measured on a scale. Do not mix by volume.
What is the working time?+
About 40 minutes at 25 °C.
How thick can I coat timber?+
The resin's surface tension allows a 1–2 mm coating without run off. One poured coat gives a glass like finish equal to 50 coats of varnish.
How long does it take to cure?+
A thin layer cures in about 24 hours between 20 °C and 30 °C. Maximum impact strength is reached after 5 days. Do not let the temperature drop below 20 °C.
How do I remove bubbles?+
Safely run a propane torch flame over the surface, then repeat after 15 minutes to remove air bubbles that rise from the wood.
Can it fill knot holes and defects?+
Yes. Prefill large defects and knot holes so they become features. Defects in furniture, wood and floorboards can be filled with resin alone or mixed with sawdust or colourants.
Can I cast with Solid Cast 606?+
Yes, for chess pieces, paperweights and embedded objects such as coins, medals and shells, up to a block casting of around 250 mL in a silicone rubber mould. Small castings and thin layers can be brittle. For deep pours and river tables, use River Resin Deep Cast Epoxy.
How much heat can it handle once cured?+
Solid Cast 606 is temperature resistant up to 80 °C.
Why is my resin thick or cloudy?+
Resins and hardeners can go thick and cloudy in cold weather. Stand the closed bottles in warm water until clear and free-flowing, then dry the bottles before you open and mix them.
