UV Resin

Solid Solutions Professional UV Resin is a ready-to-use, single-component resin that cures hard and crystal clear in minutes under UV light — no mixing, no measuring, no waiting hours for a two-part epoxy to set. It's the resin of choice for jewellery making, small castings, coatings and quick repairs, and this range includes the resin itself plus the UV lamp you'll need to cure it.

What is UV resin?

UV resin is a single-component photopolymer — unlike epoxy resin, there's no Part A and Part B to measure and mix. Instead, the resin stays liquid indefinitely in its bottle and only hardens when it's exposed to ultraviolet light, whether that's a dedicated UV lamp or direct sunlight. That makes it fast: a thin layer cures touch-dry in as little as 2–5 minutes under a 36W UV lamp, or 5–40 minutes in sunlight depending on how strong the light is. Because it cures on demand rather than on a fixed timer, you can work on a piece for as long as you like before curing it, and cure it in stages — ideal for layering colours, embedding objects, or building up small pieces like pendants and earrings one step at a time.

UV resin vs epoxy resin

Cure time
UV resin cures in minutes on demand under UV light. Epoxy resin cures on its own over several hours to a day, regardless of light.
Project size
UV resin works best in thin layers on small pieces — jewellery, pendants, small castings — since UV light needs to reach all the way through to cure it. Epoxy resin is better suited to larger, deeper pours like tumblers, tabletops and river tables.
Preparation
UV resin is single-component and ready to use. Epoxy resin is two-part and needs to be measured and mixed at the correct ratio before use.

Best for

Jewellery making
Pendants and small castings
Coating and doming
Craft and quick repairs

How to use UV resin

1
Pour or apply
Pour the resin straight into your mould or bezel, or apply it as a coating — no mixing or measuring needed.
2
Remove air bubbles
Pop any surface bubbles with a toothpick or heat gun before curing, since UV resin sets too fast to self-level like epoxy.
3
Cure under UV light
Hold a UV lamp close to the piece for 2–5 minutes, or leave it in direct sunlight for 5–40 minutes depending on how strong the sun is.
4
Build up in layers
For deeper pieces, cure in thin layers rather than one thick pour, since UV light only cures as deep as it can reach.

FAQs

Is UV resin better than epoxy resin?+
Neither is better overall — they suit different jobs. UV resin cures in minutes and needs no mixing, making it ideal for small pieces like jewellery. Epoxy resin takes longer to cure but works in much deeper pours, making it the better choice for tumblers, tabletops and larger castings.
Do I need a UV lamp, or can I cure UV resin in sunlight?+
Either works. A 36W UV lamp cures most pieces in 2–5 minutes and gives you a consistent result indoors. Direct sunlight also cures UV resin, but takes longer — around 5–10 minutes on a sunny day and up to 40 minutes when it's cloudy.
Can UV resin be used for large or deep projects?+
Not in a single pour. UV light only cures as deep as it can penetrate, so thick pours won't cure all the way through. For anything larger or deeper than a thin layer, either build up in stages or use an epoxy resin instead.
What can I make with UV resin?+
UV resin is popular for jewellery making — pendants, earrings and charms — as well as small castings, doming over stickers or photos, coating flat pieces, and quick repairs where you don't want to wait hours for epoxy to cure.
Does UV resin go off if I don't use it straight away?+
Store the bottle away from direct sunlight and UV light between uses so it doesn't begin curing inside the bottle.
